CLINICAL APPROACHES

Dr. KC Lee is trained in third-wave Contextual Behavioral Sciences, an advanced approach that builds upon conventional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). His dissertation, titled "I'd like to be more mindful BUT...," delved into the use of language and explored how power dynamics, context, and positioning influence the narratives that individuals and societies construct. Drawing from both Eastern and Western philosophical traditions, Dr. Lee has integrated these perspectives into his clinical practice. His experience in Europe and Asia has also led him to incorporate cultural and historical considerations into his therapeutic approach, enriching his work with a broader and more nuanced understanding of his clients' experiences.

CLINICAL FOCUS

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING

Individual therapy is a personalised, one-on-one mental health investment tailored to meet your unique needs. It offers a safe, caring, and confidential environment where you can embark on a personal journey of growth and healing. This collaborative process creates opportunities for clients to address issues before they escalate, fostering lasting emotional resilience and developing effective strategies to respond to stressful situations with confidence and strength.

DEPRESSION/ ANXIETY/ ANGER

Depression and anxiety are common mood disorders that affect millions of people worldwide. The good news is that these conditions are highly treatable, with 80-90% of individuals responding well to talk therapy. However, when left unaddressed, these disorders can lead to frustration, anger outbursts, and non-adaptive behaviors that create further challenges. Talking to a professional can help you trace the roots of these moods, understand your responses, and explore different ways to achieve the outcomes you desire. A professional provides a safe and confidential space to navigate the symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of your condition, which is crucial for managing your moods and emotions effectively.

COUPLES AND RELATIONSHIP THERAPY

Relationships can become challenging over time - what once brought a couple together sometimes becoming a source of tension as circumstances change and individuals go through different stages in life. Couples therapy, or relationship counseling, is designed to help partners of all types navigate these challenges, whether they involve communication breakdowns, emotional distance, infidelity or trust issues. The focus of these sessions is not on assigning blame but on understanding what both partners want from the relationship and equipping them with the skills to prevent and manage conflicts. Through this process, couples can facilitate positive change and work towards resolving issues together.

WORK STRESS/ PERFORMANCE/BURNOUT

Work-related stress can feel overwhelming, especially given that many of us spend a significant portion of our lives at work. Our job performance often influences major life decisions, such as where we live and how we support our families, as well as the lifestyle we can afford. The pressures of seeking affirmation, validation, and competing in the workplace can add to these stressors, often without us realizing it. Speaking with a neutral third party can help you identify and understand the various factors contributing to your stress. Through counseling, you can explore different strategies for managing stress and develop healthier ways of responding to workplace challenges.

CAREER GUIDANCE AND COACHING

Career guidance and coaching is about much more than just finding and securing employment. It’s designed to support you at any stage of your career—whether early, mid, or advanced—by helping you upskill, reskill, and increase work satisfaction through understanding your career needs, values, interests, and preferences. By recognizing your work motivations, and assessing both your strengths and areas of development, career coaching can addresses challenges in the workplace, such as procrastination, performance issues, career progression, or interpersonal relationships, equipping you with the tools to navigate and thrive in your professional life.

CHANGE / ADJUSTMENT/ TRANSITIONS

Change is a constant part of life, whether it comes gradually or hits suddenly. It could be aging, starting a new job, experiencing a miscarriage, moving to a new city, losing a loved one, starting a family, or facing a serious diagnosis like cancer. Not everyone adapts smoothly to these transitions, and the adjustments can be stressful, leaving you struggling to understand what these changes mean and how to manage your new reality. Sometimes, these shifts require significant changes in how you live, or they might force painful adjustments that lead to feelings of resentment and anguish.

A skilled psychologist can support you through these transitions by helping you develop coping strategies that suits you. This might include building new support networks, restructuring your thoughts, improving problem-solving skills, and managing stress. With professional guidance, you can navigate the course of change more effectively and find ways to regain your balance in the face of life’s challenges.

GENDER, SEXUALITY AND INTIMACY

Gender, sexuality, and intimacy counseling provides a safe, non-judgmental, and sex-positive space where you can explore and define your true self, manage societal pressures and expectations. This counseling helps you re-examine the social norms you've been conditioned by, reassess societal messages, and restructure limiting beliefs or "should" statements. Whether you identify as straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, asexual, polyamorous, male, female, non-binary, gender-fluid, intersex, transgender, or are still exploring, you are welcome here. The focus can be on exploration or reaffirmation of identities, managing discrimination, adapting to cultural norms, addressing problematic behaviors, establishing safe boundaries, and building more effective personal and professional connections. This space is dedicated to helping you embrace your authentic self and navigate the complexities of gender, sexuality, and intimacy with confidence and support.

IDENTITY, ESTEEM AND CONFIDENCE

Identity, or 'self-concept' in psychology, refers to the ways you perceive, describe, and evaluate yourself in relation to others. This includes the memories, experiences, relationships, and values that shape your sense of self. Exploring your identity can enhance self-esteem by helping you trust your own judgment and feel comfortable with your abilities and strengths. This process is key to realizing your full potential and building confidence that authentically reflects your personality and style.

CLINICAL CONDITIONS / LONG TERM CARE

Living with a long-term condition or chronic illness presents ongoing challenges that can affect every aspect of life. As you or your loved one navigate through different stages and face both expected and unexpected developments, it’s normal for moods and emotions to fluctuate. Integrating psychological care and mental well-being into your overall care plan is essential. It can help you better manage the changes in your body, mind, and emotions, offering the support needed to cope with the demands of chronic illness.
